"Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University of Iaşi (TUIASI) has the oldest tradition in engineering education and research in Romania. Since its foundation, TUIASI has given priority to research, interdisciplinary approach, innovation, teaching and internationalisation. The main goal of developing "technology for the people around us" has always been at the core of TUIASI’s research, teaching and technological transfer activities.
Romanian Surveyors Union (UGR) is a professional, independent, non-government and non-political organization, with a non-working character. It was established in 1990 through the initiative of geodetic engineers. One of the UGR objectives is to increase the prestige of geodesy and professional authority of surveyors. The UGR sustain and protect the professional and economic interests of its members, while presenting and promoting the importance of surveying activities. UGR initiate and propose laws regarding the surveying activities and surveyor role. Today UGR counts almost 1.100 members, organized in 47 local associations. Romanian Surveyors Union is member of FIG.
At the Faculty of Hydrotechnics, Geodesy and Environmental Engineering, belonging to the "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University of Iasi, organizing the "GEOMAT" International Symposium has become a tradition, this year being the eighth edition. The idea of organizing and continuously developing the scale of events arose as a result of the initiative of the Department of Surveying and Cadastre.
Since 2017, the Young Photogrammetrists Association provides logistical support for the organization of the GEOMAT international symposium. Young researchers and students are encouraged to actively participate at the conference activities, to be well prepared to challenges that will occur through accelerated development of technology and also to concepts from the field of geomatics and environmental sciences.
The Faculty of Geodesy has an important tradition in the geodetic engineer education in Romania, which began in Bucharest in 1818, at the St. Sava School under the leadership of Gheorghe Lazar, in Romanian language. On the campus of Lacul Tei Blvd., Geodesy has been operating as a specialty since 1955, and in 1990 it became a faculty. The faculty has three departments: the Department of Surveying and Cadastre, the Department of Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and the Department of Physics. The research activity is conducted within the Research Center for Geodetic Engineering Measurements and Spatial Data Infrastructures (MGDIIS) and Research Center for Spatial Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and GIS (GEOS).
Since its establishment in 1991, the "1 decembrie 1918" University of Alba Iulia has defined its mission starting from the national significance of Alba Iulia and the area, the educational ideal being based on the valuable traditions of the Romanian high school. For over a quarter of a century, the University of Alba Iulia aims to contribute, through specific ways of education, research and value creation, to the preservation and affirmation of national identity, to the unity in diversity of Romanian culture, to its active integration in the European and universal circuit of values.
We want to welcome you this year in a new way, adapted to the challenges of the moment, with a digital design at the eighth edition of the GEOMAT - 2021 International Symposium, which is destined to be a landmark in the field of geomatics. The symposium will better highlight the importance of using spatial reference data in society and, in particular, in the field of engineering that supports spatial information. The symposium reflects GEOMAT's motto "Inspiration for a smarter world" by accepting current and future-oriented topics. We wish you a pleasant meeting, good conversations and many moments of inspiration!
As we are used at the end of the year in Iași takes place the GEOMAT International Symposium, an event organized by the "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University of Iasi, Faculty of Hydrotechnics, Geodesy and Environmental Engineering in cooperation with the Romanian Association of Surveyors. In the new digital conception of Geomat Symposium we have the chance to meet in a proper framework where we can discuss subjects of interest for surveyors community, propose constructive ideas and solutions for enriching our activities, nationally as well as internationally.
We are gladly welcoming all the participants!
"Given the success of the first edition held in 2013, to celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of the founding at Iasi city of technical and engineering education by Gheorghe Asachi, the next editions want the continue a tradition that has its roots in Iasi university academics medium. "
Past ConferencesInternational Symposium GEOMAT is an annual scientific event of great impact in the area of Geomatics organized by Department of Surveying and Cadastre, Faculty of Hydrotechnics, Geodesy and Environmental Engineering in cooperation with Romanian Surveyors Association in partnership with other universities with specific curricula in the geodetic engineering specialties and other governmental institutions with leading role in the domain. GEOMAT was an initiative of the Department of Surveying and Cadastre, Faculty of Hydrotechnics, Geodesy and Environmental Engineering started in 2013.
In addition to the scientific contributions of the conference participants, we want to create a favorable environment to discussions between educational medium, government agencies and private companies, to exchange ideas and establish priorities in the field of geomatics. Equipment and software companies in the field are invited to present their products in a specially designed frame and to promote innovative solutions to global development requirements of geospatial sciences.
The first edition of this symposium (2013) commemorated the bicentennial celebration of the foundation of the technical and engineering education in Romanian by a famous cultural scholar, Gheorghe Asachi. The date of November 15, 1813, when the foundations of The School of Cadastral Science and Engineering within the Royal Academy of Iaşi were laid, is the anniversary moment for both our university and for the entire technical and engineering higher education in Romanian.
The topics of the symposium were addressed to specialists in the field of geodesy, but at the same time it was enriched with a new field dedicated to applied and environmental sciences. The symposium papers will be analyzed by recognized experts in the field, who will ensure a high level of quality of the scientific content presented at the symposium.
